This article was made as the prosess moved along -almost like a diary. I wanted to show you how to build an inexpensive and simple IOM, and that in a way that don't take to much time (you want to spend your time sailing - right ?).
This is in general how I built my last IOMs.  TheMk XIV is a development on the boats, which I sailed in 2004 (in Spain), and in 2005 (in Australia). It is not a drastic new design, but  an attempt to reduce  the weaknesses of the forerunners, without destroying the advantages they had.
The hull lines was developed in a 3-D program. The hull, which will become plank thickness, when taken off all the 49mm cross sections provided by the line drawings. In ACAD the cross sections are far fanned out, Many overlaps of the cross sections are made, and then printed out on paper, mirrored over the midship line.

Image As should be recognizable in the right picture, the materials for providing the template is ; three sheets of 2mm thick cardboard slates for the centerboard and cross sections , which one can get at any good office equipment supplier. Cross section by cross section is cut out and painted. At the building market I bought a 1000x100x21mm plywood board, got the centerline drawn up, marked in all the 49mm short cross lines. With a so slim boat you don’t need to draw a perpendicular line to the center line, short markings is enough - small brackets( triangels), also made from cardboard was cut out, and then the template was set up.

Image The cross sections and the triangles are glued at the lower edge with Ponal (glue for wood) to the board. Later I am going to plank up with balsa strips, but I don’t have time this evening as I am going sailing in Mettenhof.
