Page 8 of 11 The deck was cut from two mirrored halves. The deck got a layer glass epoxied on, a 80g mat. The boat were brought straight back into the basement, freshly laminated, creating a safe connection between the edges and over the corners. Had to do this very quick, since I had a date at 1300 o'clock, the old boat is already rigged. Tomorrow all this will be worked on; the outside of the deck. Because of the hull/deck connection I can only say that I usually bond a beem there, a 6x4 or so. The bonding is done with epoxy (only not with this 5min. epoxy or the like), to do that the surface must be abraded evenly, with 60 grit paper or so. The "doll-boards" (the upper strengthened part of the hull), must be coated also with epoxy- I forgot yesterday. It will be great if the two halves of the deck fit ( up to a few tenths). That will indicate whether the hull is still symetrical or not. This morning the boat will be collected from it's storage, and the deck will be worked on. This afternoon the deck will be laminated with a new layer. This time from the outside. 14.11.2005 Today I fetched the ready mountedboat from my cellar. I have cut off all excess materials, and the hull weighs about 550g. Now, all that is left is hours and hours with sanding and polishing.![]() 15.11.2005 Yesterday I polished until my fingers where bleeding with 60 grit paper. I should attempt robbing a bank, as I have no more fingerprints. Now however there is some rubber that needs removing. For the boats bumper, Sikaflex will do. The edges of the bow aera is masked with masking tape, and the Sika is put in at the front. Tesa adhesive tape and laundry clips is used to roughly form the Sika rubber putty - wait. Unfortunately the photos of the process where not useable. On the next day you can sand the Sikaflex with 60's paper to the correct shape. |
